Here is an opportunity to add a talking point to any room not only with the
style of the Arco lamp but also its amazing functionality!
One of the classics of modern lighting design—and part of MoMA’s
permanent collection—the Arco Floor Lamp (1962) is characterized by the
dramatic arc of its stainless steel stem and the counterpoint provided
by the weighty marble base. (A centralised hole in the base aids in
moving of the lamp—insert a broomstick through the core for two-person
lifting.) Inspired by the design of a street light, it cleverly provides
overhead lighting without requiring ceiling suspension. The polished
stainless steel shade extends eight feet beyond the base, leaving room
for a dining table or sofa to sit directly beneath the light source.
The Arco is made with multiple materials but most substantial is the
heavy marble base and stainless steel stem and shade. |
